A Lone Candle...A Candle Alone

A single flickering light; a lone sentry poised to stave off the darkness  that seeks to envelop it. A small symbol of hope and perseverance all but lost among the emptiness and uncertainty of the world around it. Shining brightly against all odds, as it's source slowly begins to diminish , evidence of its own mortality. I take a moment to carefully return the  candle to the small box from which it came,  to be removed again at this time next year, to once again shine brightly and bring hope and inspiration in a world of ever growing darkness.  Leaning back once again, I take a moment to note the lone empty chair that faces me at end of the table,  seemingly sinking into the darkness that encompases it, as if to lur...

Not your Lodi

When someone inspires you to become a better person, that person deserves our respect and admiration, but we should not turn that person into an Idol (or Lodi, as it is referred to in some countries).  People, be they a celebrity or just the woman down the street, are humans. As such, humans are allowed to have flaws, make the occasional mistake, and not please everyone all of the time. Idols on the other hand do not have such flexibility.  We put them on a pedestal and expect them to be perfect all of the time, to have no flaws, and always please everyone. We are simply not being fair to ourselves or the individuals in question if we do not allow  these individuals to be a living breathing 'flesh and blood' person, who happens to inspire us through their own lives and accomplishments, and how they have impacted others.
